Let's Bee Social #205

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

This past week I made progress on all the blocks for my Desert Donkeys quilt. My husband even said how cute those little burros were and he doesn't usually take much of an interest in my quilting. Speaking of quilting, I hope to get this cutie quilted up soon. I have the backing and binding all ready to go!

I also got a surprise this week when this Happy Mail arrived. I ordered fabric from Clinton Modern Creative last month, but some of my items were pre-order. So I forgot all about it!

Alison Glass - Abacus Gold Branches, Sun Print Link Carrot and Overgrown Cactus, Diving Board Latitude Crab

Katarina Roccella - Esoterra Plantae Aurora & Alison Glass - Diving Board Reef Mermaid and Submarine

It makes me so happy to see your creations made using my patterns! This Giraffe Family quilt was made by Becky. She wrote to sent me these photos and said, "I really enjoyed making your quilt. I’d like to make foxes in the Birches, too. Thanks for such a well written pattern." And then she gave me permission to share it here on the blog!

The backing is perfect for this quilt.

And, of course, I am a big fan of the wavy line quilting!

What a clever idea! I love these adorable braided tails she added!!!

Thank you so much for being willing to share your beautiful finish with us Becky!!!!

Geometric Texas

It's been more than a month since I have done any sewing. And that is a looooong time!

Last Saturday I led a workshop for the Oakville Quilters' Guild and was asked to do a little demonstration of the wavy line quilting. I brought along a few of the blocks that have been made for testing different quilts I designed and I also brought the paper pieced Geometric Texas. This was a paper pieced block designed by Kristy of Quiet Play Designs.

I don't usually choose to make something that is paper pieced. This is only the second block I have made using the method. But I couldn't resist. Kristy designed the block in an effort to help raise money for those displaced by the hurricane Harvey. And knowing I was planning to attend Quilt Market soon afterward made me feel a closeness to those Texans. I wanted to do what I could to promote the fund raiser any way I could and showed my finished block here on the blog and on social media.

When I went to Texas for Quilt Market in October, I finally had a chance to meet Kristy in person. She flew in from Australia for the event.

I added white and grey borders to make my block bigger and quilted using my organic wavy lines during the demonstration at the workshop. The backing is some random print I found in my stash and it has a lot of sewing notions and a little love so I thought it would make a cute backing.

When I finished the quilting on this Texas block I decided to make it into a wall hanging to gift to my sister for Christmas. I added corner tabs for hanging and then finished it off with a black binding.

My sister Georgina and I drove down to Texas from Ontario Canada. And it was the first time in over 35 years that we had a chance to hang out together and have some fun. I do hope that we will have a chance to do something like this again, but even if we don't, I want to make sure she remembers our trip for years to come.

We had joked around during our trip about getting a tattoo of Texas and all the states we passed through. But I really think this was a more fitting tribute to our trip and the memories we made along the way.

The "Geometric Texas" quilted wall hanging finished at 19" x 20"
and was the 59th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

Let's Bee Social # 204

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

For the first time in well over a month, I finally have had a chance to do some sewing! On Saturday I led a workshop for the Oakville Quilters' Guild and was asked to do a little demonstration of the wavy line quilting. I brought along my paper pieced Geometric Texas block made a few months ago and managed to get that completely quilted. Hoping to share this as a finish this Friday!

Here are some of the participants of the workshop and blocks from their hard work that day.

I had a wonderful time at the class and these girls were a blast to hang out with all day!

And then during this week I began sewing up a quilt top that I had all cut out and ready to sew. The top is done and the backing and binding are prepared. Hoping to get some quilting done on this one today!

Let's Bee Social #203

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

Things are finally returning to normal since returning from Quilt Market. I'm now working on this new pattern called Desert Donkeys. This quilt setting finishes at 38" x 47".

I am also working on this profile Donkey head block that finishes at 6" and 12" square.

I haven't sewn anything in over a month!!! But tonight I am away from home providing a Trunk Show for the Ancaster Quilt Guild. Can't wait to get out and meet some quilters in person!
