Panda Please - a baby boy quilt

Introducing the Panda Please pattern!

I made this one in blue so I think it feels like a baby boy quilt.

I really wanted to use some black and white prints to make this quilt. But did not have enough of any of those in my stash. So instead I improvised! The panda bears were made with two new fabrics I just purchased recently from Clinton Modern Creative. They are Heather Givans - Literary - Read Aloud in Teal and Libs Elliott - Tattooed - Zoltar in Teal. Also included is Abacus: Grow in Sky - a perfectly subtle low volume fabric used for the "white" faces and tummies. This fabric was left over from making my Flowers quilt.

Then I had to find something in my stash that was big enough to use for the backing. I discovered this cute button print from Cloud9's Mad Mend collection. This piece has been waiting since July of 2014 to be used. It has a dark and a light blue that I felt matched with the blues from the front. And I liked the buttons!

These little pandas were quilted in organic wavy lines using my walking foot, with a teal thread on top and white in the bobbin. I actually ran out of the teal thread 2/3's of the way through, but continued on using a slightly lighter thread and it all worked out just fine.

The binding is the same Read Aloud in Teal as used in the pandas, sewn onto the back of the quilt and machine finished by top stitching from the front.

The "Panda Please!" quilt finished at 37" x 44"
and was the 50th use of my 2nd edition of 100 labels
ordered from Ikaprint.

Hope you like the "Panda Please!" as much as I do!

Here are some other colourways you could use to make the Panda Please quilt.

Panda Please 37" x 44" in green

Panda Please 37" x 44" in pink

Panda Please 37" x 44" in black and white

I shared about this pattern in the Let's Bee Social post and on Instagram. It was so much fun to read all the comments guessing which version I went with for the real quilt! Thanks so much for playing along!

You can find the Panda Please pdf pattern here in my shop.

Let's Bee Social # 196

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social! Today I am excited to share the NEW Panda Please pattern!

Panda Please 37" x 44" in blue

Panda Please 37" x 44" in pink

Panda Please 37" x 44" in green

Panda Please 37" x 44" in black and white

I came up with this design quite a while ago. But I got sidetracked with giraffes and working on my new website. So now I finally had time to write and test the pattern. And will be sharing my finished Panda Please quilt with you this Friday.

I'm sharing a few mock ups to give you an idea of how different this quilt can look. Boyish in blues. Pretty in pink. The green background looks like the pandas are in the jungle. And then there is the black and white.

Can you guess which colourway I made?

Sunday Stash

I did it again. More Fabric = More Quilts. Right?

You've heard it before... "This year I have been working hard on using fabrics from stash for most of my projects." And I am repeating this to justify the fact that I need to replenish my stash. Makes me feel a little less guilty!

  • Heather Givens - Literary - Read Aloud Teal
  • Libs Elliott - Tattooed - Zoltar Teal
  • Libs Elliott Tattooed - Bright Eyes Light Blue
  • Libs Elliott Tattooed - Bright Eyes Light Purple
  • Cotton + Steel Lagoon - Lemur Forest Orchid
  • Lizzy House - Asterisk - Plum
  • Cotton + Steel - XOXO Dandelion

Working on incorporating some more modern prints into my stash.
And Clinton Modern Creative seems to be making that an easy task!

If I had to choose just one... I would choose those lemurs!
You just know that I am a sucker for anything animal.

I love the contrast those little black and white faces and striped tails provide!

And then there were these two pieces added to the cart.....

  • Brushline - Concrete
  • Cotton + Steel - Wolves - Grey

I added those because I had previously purchased the squirrels I shared with you in this post. I purchased the squirrels because I plan to make a new pillowcase for my daughter. So I had to add the wolves to make a pillowcase for my son, of course.

Once again, Darla provided me with a little gift for making the purchase. A package of sewing machine needles! That reminds me.... I haven't put in a new one for a while, so now I have no excuse. Better get on it!

This new fabric was purchased from Clinton Modern Creative

Let's Bee Social # 195

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!
So glad to have you join us for the Let's Bee Social weekly linky party!

This week I have finally gotten around to working on my 6 giraffe version of the Giraffes in a Row pattern. Finally! It was a tough decision to make. What colour of background should I use? Something light or something dark? What about the focus fabrics? Should I go with solids or keep on practicing with using prints?

In the end I was highly influenced by my new blog header and decided to use a white background and good old solids. I have been stressing myself out for the past few weeks, but now I'm right in my happy place and so glad to be piecing in my comfort zone!

I have a double trunk show in Waterloo, Ontario today and am looking forward to meeting everyone at the Waterloo County Quilters' Guild. Then I hope I can get back at those giraffes tomorrow and soon have a finished top!

Meanwhile, down on the farm.....

The photo above was taken 7 years ago this month. I took the photo to enter in the local fall fair's photography section. The subject was "Point of View". I just found this photo recently on an old memory stick. The name "memory" stick is dual purpose because these old photos sure do bring back memories. My son will be turning 17 this coming Monday.

In the photo my son Russell is climbing up the old square bale elevator to the top of the barn. His old dog, Dodger is looking for a way up too, but as much as he wants to follow Russell, he isn't keen to climb the elevator.

Now back to the here and now.......

I am so thrilled each time I receive an email with an attachment of a finished quilt. Really. Truly. It makes me smile inside and out to see that someone enjoyed making one of my patterns. That is my goal. I want my customers and quilt alongers to be happy all the way through the whole process. I hear a lot of stories of the dreaded UFO's that people start and loose interest in finishing. So if you are writing to share a finish, then that tells me you had fun!

Today I am excited to share two emails that were sent to me with finished quilts attached.

First up we have this adorable Giraffes in a Row made by Gale.

"I purchased your pattern early in August and made the larger version for my new grandbaby. Thought you would like to see my version. I used some of my batiks, that somehow seem to never get used.  Love how it turned out and really enjoyed making it. Feel free to share it if you wish. While grandbaby # four for us is only a month old and cannot appreciate the bright quilt, her two year old sister has already claimed it. Love your patterns and hope to make more in my future. Happy Stitching, Gale"

I thought Gale had used white for a background... Just like in my blog header! But it turns out this a very pale sky blue. And I love that scrappy binding. What a clever way to continue the rainbow goodness all the way around!

Gail also noticed that there was a small omission in the pattern. The blue giraffe was one piece too short in the neck. Now that I am finally working on my own version of the large size quilt, I see that she was right! Thank you so much for sending in the correction and.... Thank you so much for allowing me to share your rainbow-tastic new finish, Gail!

Secondly we have this precious
Forest Friends 2 baby quilt made by Duane.

Do you know how much I love that wavy line quilting? Of course you do!

Thank you so much for allowing me to share your lovely new finish, Duane!
