Wanted: Pattern Testers

Happy Friday everyone!  Not much sewing has been going on in my world this week.  I have been working on a couple of new mini quilt designs.

Now that the 'not fun' part is done, I am waiting on a shipment of new Kona Solids to arrive from my favourite online shop, Mad About Patchwork.  They have just moved to a new location and are really excited for their Grand Opening date of June 3rd.  Pam contacted me about sponsoring a new project.  I showed her these two mini quilt designs.

Ombre Sewing Studio mini Quilt - 17" x 32"

Ombre Sewing Studio mini Sew - 14" x 33"

Pam is offering the quilt kits in her shop here.  And I will be supplying the patterns.

If any of you are interested in pattern testing, I would LOVE to hear from you!  You can use fabrics from your stash or you will be able to purchase the kit from Mad About Patchwork.  Leave me a comment or email me at sewfreshquilts {at} gmail {dot} com if you are interested and let me know which mini you would prefer to do the testing for.

Edited to Add:  When am I looking to have the testing done?  The sooner - the better.  I am looking for people who can commit to making this project a priority.

May 27th was the final day for voting in the AccuQuilt Block Design contest.  Thank you ALL for your dedicated support and kind words of encouragement throughout the contest.  I really appreciate knowing that even though I have never met you, I can count on you as a friend!

Hearty Congratulations to my arch nemesis, Will Bennett!

I'm a Little Bit Country.... And I'm a Little Bit Rock n' Roll

Today I am excited to show you what I made using the new GO! Kite die AccuQuilt sent me!  The GO! Kite is one of 11 new dies that AccuQuilt introduced this month.

Here is a little peek of project number one.  In this one, I chose to leave the kite portion of the block as negative space.

I prepare for cutting by measuring the size of the die.  Then I use that width plus a 1/4" to cut strips from my fabric.  I fold my strips into portions to allow for the length of the die.

Here you can see that my folded strip is plenty long enough to cover the die.

My kite portion of the blocks is cut from the folded strip.

And here my coloured strips have been readied for cutting the background portion of the block.

As you can see, using this prep method allows for minimal waste of fabric.

It actually took longer to chose which fabrics to use than it took to cut them!  A few cranks of the handle and this project was all cut out and ready to start sewing.

For my first project I used some of the more pastel shades of Basic Shades for Riley Blake Designs.  And used white for the kite portion of the block.

I chose a soft shaded floral fabric for the backing and backing.  And quilted using some simple outline and echo quilting.   The flanged binding method was used to bind this table runner, which finished at 12.5" x 36".

This runner finished up looking a little June Clever like.  So I thought I would give the Kite another GO!  This time I chose some of the brighter pieces from that same bundle of Basic Shades for project number two.

To switch the focus of this quilt, the brights were used for the Kites and the whites were used for the background.

I threw in some sashing and cornerstones to break things up and add an element of interest.

Quilting with the walking foot, I used the serpentine stitch, then bound her in a black sketch print from the Architextures collection by Carolyn Friedlander for Robert Kaufman Fabrics.

This table topper finished at 21" square.  The backing is this crazy black on white bug print I had languishing in my stash for a while now.

Considering the same fabric collection and die were used, this layout came out looking quite different from the other runner.  And has more of a modern feel.  But both are cute!  One's a little bit country... And the other is a little bit rock n' roll!

The GO! Kite Die 55254 can also be used to make this GO! Hummingbird quilt.  This quilt pattern, and many more, are FREE to download.
